CATIE (Centro Agronomico Tropical de Investigacion y Ensenanza), located in Costa Rica, is a regional centre for research, education and sustainable development. CATIE also has a long-standing interest in cocoa. Cocoa in Meosamerica, in particular.
As part of their research into sustainable cocoa growing practices (headed by Dr Eduardo Somarriba), they have collated a tremendous amount of biodiversity data. These include measurements of abundances of frog and reptiles within plantations and primary forests in Costa Rica, Gutaemla, Honduras and Nicaragua.
Eduardo has contributed this data treasure to the PREDICTS project (http://www.predicts.org.uk/) and is now collaborating with the BIOFRAG project, hopefully allowing insights into impacts of fragmentation and land use on diversity of this important taxonomic group.
